Year 2007 November
09, 2007, Augsburg - 2007 Graduation Ceremony November 07,
2007, Munich - Conference: Enforcement of IP Rights We are happy to invite MIPLC Alumni and Partners
to the first MIPLC Alumni Wiesn. Wednesday, September 26, 3:00PM, Munich June 2007 - Establishment of US Alumni Chapter On 2 June 2007 the
Regional Alumni Meeting took place in Washington DC.
The meeting was not only a gathering-together with the MIPLC colleagues, the
faculty and friends who currently live and work in the US, but also a very
important event in the light of the growth of the MIPLC Alumni Association: On 2
June the US Regional Alumni Chapter
was established. In view of the general objectives of the MIPLC Alumni
Association, the main aim of the US Regional Alumni Chapter is to create a
network among US Alumni and to maintain the relationship with the central Alumni
based in Munich. The activities of the Regional Chapter mainly focus on a
creation of a regional network of contacts, a permanent sharing of information,
an interchange of news and events, jobs, internship and more, by being updated
about all Alumni news and events. During the regional meeting on 2 June the main
future plans in regard with an organization of social events such as the
Christmas reception, a kind of ‘Stammtisch’, especially when the regional
chapter grows, some future academic events like lectures and conferences as well
as possible periodicals have been discussed. As a positive feedback to the
meeting which took place on 2 June, a few US Regional Alumni Chapter meetings
have been already organized and, as planned, more will take place in the near
future. The General Assembly Meeting was
followed by the speech of Judge Randall R. Rader (Chief Judge of the US
Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Washington D.C.) who
generously extended the originally announced subject to include an
excursus regarding the establishment of IP rights in South American,
Eastern European and Asian Countries in the TRIPS context. The speech
was given at the Max Planck Institute in the company of many Alumni,
Professors, various professionals in the field of IP, and current
students. Year 2007

The Board also conducted its general elections as provided by the
charter. Newly elected members include Eliamani Laltaika,
(Tanzania) who takes over Presidency of the Board from Anna
Bacchin (Italy), the Association's first President and its leader since
its inception and registration in 2005.
Other newly elected officers include Agnieszka Ignaczak (Poland)
as Vice-President, and Diana Laguizamon (Colombia) as the Marketing
Manager. Kristina Janusauskaite (Lithuania) continues exercising
her duties as the Board's Secretary, while Christoph Laub (Germany)
remained the Treasurer and Katy Halmen (USA) remained the leader of the
US Chapter.
During the General Assembly, it was decided to enlarge the number of
Board Members and thus the first meeting the Board also welcomed
Sabine Keim (Germany) and Paola Karam Valdes (Mexico). Moreover,
following the decision during the General Assembly to facilitate the
communication with the current MIPLC students by creating a position of
the class representative on the Board, Mario Cisneros (Argentina)
joined in that function.
The outgoing chairperson also decided to resign from membership of the
board "in order to have more time for other things such as contributing
articles for our newsletter".
New and old board members applauded Anna Bacchin for her exemplary
leadership and commitment she has shown during the most difficult stage
of founding the association.

May 15, 2006 – 2nd Official Annual Alumni Meeting
The second official reunion of former graduates of the
MIPLC Program, faculty members, internship sponsors and other friends
took place at the Hofbräukeller in Munich, a traditional and
typical Bavarian restaurant. Almost 80 people from all over the world,
amongst them Prof. Lawrence (Dean of George Washington University Law
School) or faculty members as Judge Randall R. Raider (Chief Judge of
the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Washington D.C.) and
Prof. Martin J. Adelman (Professor at the George Washington Law School)
were participating at this lively meeting to exchange their experiences
made after the MIPLC Program and to refresh or make new contacts.
The main focus of the evening was the foundation of the MIPLC Alumni
Association by the attending former MIPLC graduates and the election of
the 8 Members of the Board of Directors.
At Paulanerbräu in Munich (Kapuzinerplatz) participants were
“exercising” a coming together of former graduates (1st
generation: Class 2003/2004) with the current MIPLC students 2004/2005
for the first time, accompanied by the faculty members Judge Randall R.
Raider (Judge of the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit,
Washington D.C.) and Prof. Martin J. Adelman (Professor at the George
Washington Law School) as well as the supporting MIPLC staff.
Interesting talks regarding experiences and progresses of the first two
years of the new MIPLC Program were exchanged between current and
former students as well as from faculty perspective. During these
discussions and raising the issue of future prospects of the MIPLC, the
idea of establishing an Alumni Association was made up for the first
time.
